Stop Tooling Around

Are you doing what you are doing with a purpose? Or are you tooling yourself around?

Suppose it’s a career you don’t feel you’re up to, the person you work for that doesn’t align with your values, or the people you work with that make you feel like an alien. Does it worth it? Do you know what is that ‘it’?

The Begining

At a younger age (2–6), we start developing our personalities (creating the stories we tell ourselves).

Our personalities build upon how we think we should act in this world to prevent loneliness.

It’s deep inside us, and until we break this pattern, the loneliness prevention mechanism stays with us forever.

Some will get into addictions.

Some will chase money and buy expensive things.

Some will sacrifice their own feelings to please others.

The unfortunate will be all of the above.

It all comes from this childish need to feel belong.

Now

We all serve someone in most of our lives, whether a client, boss, or partner. There is no problem with it if it comes from the right intention.

Behind every action, there is a feeling which triggers it.

What if we could change the feeling (its root) and, therefore, the outcome instead of swiping it under the carpet every time it shows up?

  • What are your motives for your actions?
  • how does it serve you?

Let’s find out.

Suppose it’s the money you sold your soul for, without knowing what you will use it for or how it will serve your actual needs as a human being. In that case, you are in a considerable dissonance my friend.

You will find yourself chasing one shiny object after another for that quick rush that will not last for more than a few moments.

It will always feel like something is missing. You’ll feel like a TOOL.

If you acknowledge that you are a tool, and you need to do it to make a living and maybe some extra money.

  • What will you use the money for?
  • Does how you feel about doing it worth it?

Tools Examination

We are not built up to have that many material objects. We build up from feelings. Everything else is around it.

  • Car? It’s a tool.

It will drive you from place to place, but where do you want to get to? Why?

That will define your life, not the car (tool) itself.

Instead of tooling yourself for an expansive sports car…

Teach yourself how to learn & adjust quicker. It will get you to other places faster than most people (no matter what car they have).

It’s free and has more value.

  • House? It’s a tool.

It will give you a safe shelter with electricity, water, a bed, shower, etc. But what will you do in that shelter? Who you will share that space with? How would you feel?

That will define your life, not the house (tool) itself.

Instead of tooling yourself for a fancy house…

Live a few months in a foreign country in a trailer or a tent. After that, you will feel comfortable almost anywhere you will find yourself.

Reassess your needs and enjoy the ride until you get it.

Most people’s happiness relay in their comfort zone.

It may not be free but with more value.

You will be satisfied with less and appreciate more.

For good.

  • Smartphone? You guessed right, a tool.

What do you need it for? What do you use it for? Does it serve you or control you? How much of your daily joy rely on that device? How do you feel when the battery is about to get empty?

That will define your life, not the smartphone (tool) itself.

Instead of tooling yourself for the newest smartphone…

Learn how to communicate with others on a deep level. Develop empathy, a high level of listening, and proper interpersonal communication.

Most people lack those.

It’s free and with more value.

  • Cloths? Yep, a tool.

What’s their purpose in your life? How much energy and money do you spend on this? Does it worth it?

That will define your life, not the clothes (tools) themselves.

Instead of tooling yourself for fancy brand clothes …

Work on your body, the machine that carries you over through life.

Make yourself proud of it. Move more, balance yourself, stretch, breathe deeply once in a while, and fuel yourself with the proper nutrition.

Gain true & sustainable worth.

Most people don’t do it and regret it later when spending their money on expensive treatments. It’s free and with more value.

Pursue feelings and values. Then get and use the tools that will bring you closer to those goals.

I’m not against enjoying the material aspect of this world.

We should enjoy things as long as they’re extra and not the baseline, as long as our positive emotions are not relayed upon them.

Sometimes we’re doing it automatically because we think we need it, and we’re into momentum.

Stop for a moment and ask yourself:

  • What I’m tooling myself for?
  • Why do I feel the need to get what I want to get?

Remember: It’s not worth impressing people that get impressed by expansive tools. They will never get impressed, only jealous.

From Now On

We, as a society, create the paradigms we live in, and we should help in taking it in the right direction.

I have met some very unhealthy people with plenty of expensive tools. They just float in the world, focusing on getting better tools, showing it to everyone looking, feeling superior for a few moments, and then NOTHING.

Do you know why?

There is no end to it.

It’s like a dog chasing after its own tail.

They think it will raise their self-value but get mistaken each time the rush of getting (and showing) a new tool is over.

The change should start from the baseline. Our feelings.

You can always find something “better” you can chase, just as there is always something worse.

We need to tune our primary intention, our fundamental motivation as humans.

We should chase feelings.

I suggest you make a date with yourself and have a friendly chat.

  • How do you see yourself filling your days if you could do everything?
  • How do you want to feel?
  • What values are important to you? In yourself and in your surroundings.
  • What tools will help you to experience those feelings?
  • How much of a tool you should be to create the life you desire?

Now, get the right tools for the job and start building today, your tomorrow.

Trust me, most of us need less than we think we need.

And please, stop t(f)ooling around.
